Reading is Magic
It is never too early to unlock the magic of reading with your children! Even the youngest babies love snuggling up in your arms with a good book whilst they hear and feel the rhythm of language.
At Sentia, it is obvious that families spend time reading to their children from an early age. This shines through the strong bonds they enjoy and the rich vocabulary of their children.
Some parents and educators worry about ‘getting through the book’ and reading page by page in sequential order. For children, the fun is in the shared experience. Don’t be afraid to jump around and spend plenty of time exploring pages they especially love. You could even ask them to show you their favourite page in the book and then dwell on all the reasons why they love that page.
The magic is in the shared experience, not in racing to the end.
Reading opens up a world of information and learning. You can travel the globe and become anyone through the magic of a book.
As a child, I was obsessed with ‘The Elves and The Shoemaker’ by the Brothers Grimm. The thought of the shoemaker heading off to bed after having laid out materials for the next pair of shoes and waking up to the most exquisite creations, magically crafted by elves while he slept brought home the magic of reading to me. A lifelong passion for reading (and shoes!) was born.
